Apparently Greenpeace International revealed that the world's largest palm oil trader was found responsible for deforestation, illegal clearance and fires on peatland. Later that year the Corporation announced a "no deforestation, no peat, no exploitition policy". However, Greenpeace’s analysis found that palm oil groups are still destroying rain forest and stealing land from local communities in Indonesia. Brands we know as Unilever, Nestlé, Colgate-Palmolive and Mondelez was said to have promised their customers they’d only use clean palm oil but, according to Greenpeace and others they have not kept that promise.
Last year, Greenpeace estimated that more than 1 million hectares of forest were burned in the Amazon and the trend is not over, with more that two thousand fire hotspots being registered in the Amazon. Losing forests to fire means losing the fight against climate change, adding more species to the endangering list and threatening lives of Indigenous people.
I have put this list together of Companies and Brands that use unsustainable palm oil. Not all thier brands contain palm oil, but these companies do contribute to the palm oil problem.
